The Watchman / October 2004

The Watchman

When I was a young man serving in the U.S. Navy, I went through the experience of “boot camp.” Every person who serves in the military service goes through it. There are a couple of interesting things that happen to a person when they go through “boot camp.” First, they never forget the experience. If you ask any past veteran of the military, regardless of their branch of service, they can tell you about their “boot camp.” No one will ever say that they don’t remember that part. Secondly, they will also remember their training on how to stand a watch. Standing watch can be referred to as guard duty, manning a post, being on station, or standing a fire watch. Boot camp trains you how to be a “watchman.”

Several general orders are drilled into you during your “boot camp” experience. These include “never leaving your post until properly relieved” and never “sleeping on watch.”

The lessons of boot camp are the same military training dating back to ancient times, even biblical times. The erring watchman who left his post before being relieved or who fell asleep on watch has been the reasons for great harm to many military units in time of war. Ships have been sunk, comrades have been harmed, and battles lost because a single watch did not do his duty properly.

I draw your attention to this military lesson for a very specific spiritual matter. It concerns the Lord’s soon coming. The Scriptures specifically and repeatedly draw parallels to “watching” for the Lord’s return with the military lesson of “standing a watch.”

Listen! Your watchmen lift up their voices, they shout joyfully together; for they will see with their own eyes when the Lord restores Zion.
Isaiah 52:8
On your walls, O Jerusalem, I have appointed watchmen; all day and all night they will never keep silent. You who remind the Lord, take no rest for yourselves; and give Him no rest until He establishes and makes Jerusalem a praise in the earth.
Isaiah 62:6-7
For there shall be a day when watchmen on the hills of Ephraim shall call out, “Arise, and let us go up to Zion, to the Lord our God.”
Jeremiah 31:6

These are but a few of the Scriptures referring to the watchmen. The watchmen described by Isaiah and Jeremiah serve as a word picture for a wonderful future event, when Zion is redeemed by the coming (returning) of the Messiah in victory. The restoration of Zion involves the reunion and return of the two houses of Israel. Watchmen are stationed both in Jerusalem and on the hills of Ephraim; both houses of Israel are evidenced in the use of this word picture.

As you will soon discover the Messiah joins the prophets in the use of this word picture. But before we examine His use, let me offer some additional instruction about standing a watch. There are also skills associated with standing a watch as well as mistakes to avoid. Let me address the mistakes first. Not being at your post and falling asleep while at post were the two most prevalent. Not being on post could be willful or unintentional. In either case it was not acceptable. Leaving your post prematurely without being properly relieved was the most common. Those who refused to be on watch were either at best delinquent and at worst cowards and deserters. Neither are tolerated by military units, particularly in a time of war. The Scripture speaks of both the delinquent and the cowards. Listen to Jeremiah’s counsel to us in the last days as we watch for the Lord.

The Delinquent Watchman

Thus says the Lord of hosts, “Do not listen to the words of the prophets who are prophesying to you. They are leading you into futility; they speak a vision of their own imagination, not from the mouth of the Lord. They keep saying to those who despise Me, ‘The Lord has said, “You will have peace”’; and as for everyone who walks in the stubbornness of his own heart, they say, ‘Calamity will not come upon you.’ But who has stood in the council of the Lord, that he should see and hear His word? Who has given heed to His word and listened? Behold, the storm of the Lord has gone forth in wrath, even a whirling tempest; it will swirl down on the head of the wicked. The anger of the Lord will not turn back until He has performed and carried out the purposes of His heart; in the last days you will clearly understand it.”
Jeremiah 23:16-20

Jeremiah speaks of the how false prophets redirect believers not to watch for the Lord correctly. Instead of standing a diligent watch looking for the enemy’s approach, they are told that they need not stand watch at all. “No calamity will come upon you.” “You will have peace.” These are reasons NOT to watch. This passage has always stood out to me because the very words are used by pretribulation rapture teachers today to keep many brethren from watching for what the prophecies actually say will happen. As a consequence, many believers who have a knowledge of things coming simply don’t believe it will happen to them. I have heard many of them say that they don’t need to even pay attention to the prophecies because they won’t be here then. This is an example of leaders and teachers keeping the brethren from watching properly.

The Apostle Peter spoke of unbelievers doing the same thing, telling others not to worry or watch for the Lord’s coming.

Know this first of all, that in the last days mockers will come with their mocking, following after their own lusts, and saying, “Where is the promise of His coming? For ever since the fathers fell asleep, all continues just as it was from the beginning of creation.”
II Peter 3:3-4

If someone challenges the basic premise about the second coming, then it is clear that they are not encouraging one to be attentive or watching for the event. Actually, many believers do this. We live in a world today where even Christians do not want to hear anything more about the possibility of the second coming in their generation. They have heard it all before. They don’t want to consider any more evidence on this issue. Their attitude is just like the ancient Israelites who heard the prophets speak of future judgments, but dismissed them as “doomsayers.” Even worse, the ancients killed the prophets to shut them up. Their position was, as is the position of some Christians today, that God won’t do anything – He won’t do anything good or anything bad. Everything goes on as before. Isn’t it ironic; everything is going on as before – the same unbelief and ignorance of God’s plan is still occurring. Zephaniah in his prophecy of the day of the Lord took special note of this kind of thinking and God’s plan to deal with it.

And it will come about at that time that I will search Jerusalem with lamps, and I will punish the men who are stagnant in spirit, who say in their hearts, “The Lord will not do good or evil!”
Zepheniah 1:12

Perhaps Isaiah is the prophet who spoke of the delinquent watchmen more than any. A delinquent watchman is like having no watchman at all.

His watchmen are blind, all of them know nothing. All of them are dumb dogs unable to bark, dreamers lying down, who love to slumber; and the dogs are greedy, they are not satisfied. And they are shepherds who have no understanding; they have all turned to their own way, each one to his unjust gain, to the last one. “Come,” they say, “let us get wine, and let us drink heavily of strong drink; and tomorrow will be like today, only more so.”
Isaiah 56:10-12

The prophet Ezekiel is the most quoted for the issue of the delinquent watchman.

But if the watchman sees the sword coming and does not blow the trumpet, and the people are not warned, and a sword comes and takes a person from them, he is taken away in his iniquity; but his blood I will require from the watchman's hand.
Ezekiel 33:6

There are many sad tales of this scenario. Most of the time, it is because of inattentiveness and a failure to do one’s duty properly. God’s judgment will be upon the watchman who fails to watch and warn others. However, this is not the worst mistake a watchman can make. There is one worse.

The Cowardly Watchman

Part of Jeremiah’s prophecy about the false prophets was “No calamity will come upon you” and “You shall have peace.” Many believers today do not want to hear anything but this message because of fear. Many believers simply do not want to hear that they will go through a great tribulation before the Messiah returns. Their fear is greater than their faith. One pretrib pastor years ago told me directly, “I will give up the faith. I do not want to believe in any God who will make me or my family go through the tribulation.” If God does not have a pretribulation rapture before anything really bad happens, then they would prefer to give up the faith. Don’t be shocked by this thinking, the Bible clearly says that there will be a great falling away of faith before the Lord comes. It is called the great apostasy.

Cowardice in the face of the Lord has been addressed before. For the fear of their children, the children of Israel balked and refused to enter the promise land. They preferred to die in the wilderness than trust the Lord to lead them into the land. Even the Torah commands the soldiers of Israel to release and send home any cowards before a battle. You do not want a coward with you in a battle. A coward will get both of you killed.

When you go out to battle against your enemies and see horses and chariots and people more numerous than you, do not be afraid of them; for the Lord your God, who brought you up from the land of Egypt, is with you.The Watchman
Deuteronomy 20:1
Then the officers shall speak further to the people, and they shall say, “Who is the man that is afraid and fainthearted? Let him depart and return to his house, so that he might not make his brothers' hearts melt like his heart.”
Deuteronomy 20:8

The New Testament is even more terse on this concept. The head of the list for God’s judgment upon His return are the cowardly.

He who overcomes shall inherit these things, and I will be his God and he will be My son. But for the cowardly and unbelieving and abominable and murderers and immoral persons and sorcerers and idolaters and all liars, their part will be in the lake that burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.
Revelation 21:7-8

Look again, cowards head the list of the unbelieving, the abominable, murderers, and the rest.

The Ready Watchman

The Messiah spoke of those who would be waiting and watching for His return. He likened it to another military term used with “standing a watch.” The term is readiness. Being ready for the enemy or any unforeseen event is why the military is constantly training. When a military unit is prepared for battle (or anything that happens), they are referred to as being ready. A faithful watch is “at the ready.” Listen to Yeshua’s exhortation for how we should watch for Him.

Be dressed in readiness, and keep your lamps alight. And be like men who are waiting for their master when he returns from the wedding feast, so that they may immediately open the door to him when he comes and knocks. Blessed are those slaves whom the master shall find on the alert when he comes; truly I say to you, that he will gird himself to serve, and have them recline at the table, and will come up and wait on them. Whether he comes in the second watch, or even in the third, and finds them so, blessed are those slaves. And be sure of this, that if the head of the house had known at what hour the thief was coming, he would not have allowed his house to be broken into. You too, be ready; for the Son of Man is coming at an hour that you do not expect. The Watchman
Luke 12:35-40

Yeshua makes reference to the coming of the thief a couple of times. In this instance, He refers to the preparation of a watchman who knows who is coming and when he is coming. If you knew that a thief was going to break into your house at 4:00 am in the morning, would you not check every window and door the night before to ensure that it is locked? Would you not make sure that you had your defensive weapon prepared and in your hand? At around 4:00 o’clock, would you not be listening intently for any sound of activity to alert you? You would be ready for him and confront the thief immediately, right? This is the concept of readiness that Yeshua exhorted us to have for His return.

Yeshua also made reference to “the coming of a thief” based on the temple service and the arrival of the High Priest just before the dawn of each day. This addresses the issue of a watchman falling asleep on watch.

The Watchman who falls Asleep

Unless the Lord guards the city, The watchman keeps awake in vain.
Psalms 127:1b
My soul waits for the Lord more than the watchmen for the morning; indeed, more than the watchmen for the morning.
Psalms 130:6

Anyone who has ever stood a late night or early morning watch can tell you what falling asleep on watch is all about. It is easier than you can imagine. In fact, you must make a diligent effort not to fall prey to it. Drinking coffee, splashing cold water in your face, jumping up and down with vigorous physical activity are but a few of the techniques to stay awake. I know of some highly trained soldiers in combat situations who actually used hot sauce in their eyes to keep awake. You do what you have to do to stay awake on watch.

In ancient times, the temple was guarded at night. The watchman were required to stay awake on watch. They also tended the altar fire at night to ensure that the evening sacrifice would be completely consumed prior to the morning service. They longed for the dawn of the day, so the light of day would help them fulfill their duty to be awake. They also were aware of someone who would come in the darkness, just before the dawn of the day. That someone was the High Priest.

It was said that the High Priest would come in the darkness like a thief in the night, that is, he would enter the temple stealthily. If the watchman had fallen asleep then the altar fire would be unattended. The High Priest would gather some coals from the altar and go looking for the sleeping watchman. Upon finding him, he would ignite the bottom of his garments with the fire from the altar. The watchman would awake with his clothes on fire. Obviously, he would tear off his clothes, be wounded, and go home naked. It was a bad scene for him.

Yeshua used this very scenario to describe His return. Besides, He is the Great High Priest. He is going to check the status of the altar that is in the temple within our hearts.

Behold, I am coming like a thief. Blessed is the one who stays awake and keeps his garments, lest he walk about naked and men see his shame.
Revelation 16:15

The Trained Observer vs. the Amateur Watchman

Did you know that right in the very center of your eye is a blind spot? It is the part of the eye where the optic nerve connects to the retina. When a person stares right at a specific object without any movement (scanning) of the eye, he is unable to see that specific spot. This not only happens to the eye, but is a phenomena to most sensors. A radar has the same problem. The closer you get to the antenna, the less the radar can see.

Trained observers are actually taught to scan with the eye rather than stare and affix their gaze at something. The eye can see better when it is moved over any object. You cover more area of your watch, just like a radar, by scanning back and forth, than by staring in one direction. Furthermore, a trained observer stands his watch understanding where the “threat axis” is for that watch. He knows where the front lines are and where he should be looking. A watch standing on the wall looking back into the fort at his friends is not standing the watch. The threat axis is outside the fortress beyond the walls to the horizon.

Preparing to stand a watch during the night time, a trained observer will go into a red lighted room for at least 15 minutes to allow his eyes to adjust to “night vision.” Maybe you have entered a dark movie theater and have stumbled over other patrons because you couldn’t see. Walking from a well lighted area into the dark renders a person blind to see in the darkness for several minutes. What good is it to be on watch if you can’t see anything?

I am sure that all of you have driven at night using the “dim” feature of your headlights and appreciated oncoming cars to do the same. In fact, a trained observer will look away from the brightness to maintain his night vision.

The military now uses special night vision goggles to assist those on watch to see even more by amplifying the light from the moon and stars. However, if a flashlight or even a cigarette lighter is observed using the goggles, it destroys their ability to see for a few moments.

There are also other tools and skills for the trained observer that he uses in the daytime. It is called telescopic and peripheral vision. The ability to see great distances and the outer edges while looking in another direction is a very definite skill. A pair of binoculars is the primary tool of a daytime watch, but the ability to see the whole field of view with a wide angle is just as important. Peripheral vision is just as essential as being able to see great distances.

An amateur does not know about the blind spot in his own eye. He tends to affix his gaze on an anticipated area or on the only area of his interest. An amateur doesn’t prepare for night vision nor does he protect his night vision. An amateur “plays” with the binoculars and doesn’t train his vision toward the threat axis.

All of these lessons have direct applicability to our watching for the Lord. Just as a trained observer differs from an amateur, we must learn to treat our task of watching for the Lord with a degree of seriousness and skill.

A serious watchman for the Lord follows the same principles of skill as the trained observer. Let me illustrate some of these points.

Without exception, any believer who pursues the study of eschatology goes through the same steps as an amateur goes through before becoming trained to observe. I refer to this as the contrast between expectations and prophecies. Most believers have been told what to expect rather than what the prophecies actually say.

Let me give you a case in point for a amateur watchman. Most evangelical believers of this generation have been told to expect the sudden (at any moment) rapture of the church. Hal Lindsey’s book The Late Great Planet Earth promoted this expectation in a profound way. Recently, Tim LaHaye and Jerry Jenkins have published a series of fictional novels called the Left Behind series. They are extremely popular books with many readers believing this expectation. The problem is that the prophecy of the Bible does not say that the church gets raptured out prior to a 7 year tribulation. It is a conclusion based on some prophecies in the Bible mixed with their own brand of theology. The Bible does say there will be a resurrection of the dead in the Messiah and that others, who are alive at the time, will be bodily changed and raised up with them. As to its timing in the grand scheme of things, this is where the study of many other prophecies comes into consideration. An amateur never gets to them.

Believing in the pretribulation rapture is like the amateur watchman who has fixed his gaze on one particular thing to the point that he is staring into his own blind spot. He thinks he sees but is in fact blinded by his own eye. He is blind with his eyes open. The common argument with a pretribulation believer is the attempt to help them scan other passages. The problem is that they are fixated on this one concept to the harm of everything else. They can’t see the other elements involved.

Let me share another example of making an amateur watchman’s mistake while watching for the Lord. We, American believers, are caught up in ourselves. We are deceived by our comforts of life. We actually try to make every prophecy about us. Even if the Bible says Israel, we interpret it as meaning us. Remember, in the Bible the good guys are the Israelites and we are the good guys, so “Israel” must be referring to us. If any prophecy seems to harmonize with something we like or dislike, that is good enough. It must be about us and we interpret it accordingly. This sets us up for even bigger mistakes. An amateur watchman actually imagines that he sees things.

Specifically, there are a lot of things in the Bible that have to do with America, especially the parts about being idolaters and sinners. We definitely follow those patterns of the past. America and the church has not replaced Israel in the Bible. Confusing these things with the actual prophecies is like sounding the alarm and explaining to others that a cloud in the sky is shaped like the enemy. There is a world of difference between something that harmonizes and the actual item.

Our desire should be as the trained observer. We want to be alert, sober and discerning, not as those who are deficient. But, what exactly are we looking for? Where is our threat axis? How can we quickly adjust to so much darkness and misunderstanding around us? What prophecies should we be watching and what is already around us that we can see?

I am glad you asked. Let’s train our sight to the horizon for the day that is coming. Let us use the insight of the Holy Spirit and the binoculars of the prophets. But maybe, we should also look at those things that are closer than you first imagined. Let our observations be full of understanding and wisdom. To get you started, here is a shortened list of seven items, many of which you have already seen.

1. Signs that We are the Last Generation

The Apostle Peter reminded us not to forget one particular thing at the end of the ages, before the coming of the Lord.

But do not let this one fact escape your notice, beloved, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.
II Peter 3:8

The prophetic principle that one day is as a thousand years ties back to God’s declaration of the end while telling us the beginning in Genesis 1. Each day of creation is a prophetic picture of the historical millennia. Sabbath is the seventh day; the Messiah is the Lord of the Sabbath and is to rule for a thousand years (the last day). Bible chronologists tell us that we are presently at the point of the conclusion of the sixth day and beginning of the seventh day in the prophetic time line. According to this prophecy, we (unlike all other generations) are the last generation. Yeshua said, “That generation shall not pass away until all is accomplished.”

There are many more prophecies that designate the last generation. A watchman of the Lord can see today.

2. Evidence of the Antimessiah's Soon Emergence

The prophets of Israel spoke of a final great beast (kingdom) that would take precedence in the world. It is described as having seven heads (previous kings) and ten horns (present kings). Then a prince would emerge in the midst of the 10 horns and rule for 42 months. There are many prophecies about this subject and how the prince comes to power.

And I saw a beast coming up out of the sea, having ten horns and seven heads, and on his horns were ten diadems, and on his heads were blasphemous names. And the beast which I saw was like a leopard, and his feet were like those of a bear, and his mouth like the mouth of a lion. And the dragon gave him his power and his throne and great authority.
Revelation 13:1-2

Today, the European Union has emerged out of the same elements of the ancient Roman Empire. They are forming a constitution now that will establish a single leader to rule. They have a unique power sharing methodology whereby each ruler has 6 months of authority to rule. By giving their authority to rule to one person, they will have a ruler that receives 42 months of authority by seven rulers, while three withhold their authority.

Here is wisdom. Let him who has understanding calculate the number of the beast, for the number is that of a man; and his number is six hundred and sixty six.
Revelation 13:18

A watchman of the Lord can do this calculation for a particular prince of today.

3. The Controversy of Zion within Israel

For thus says the Lord, I have heard a sound of terror, of dread, and there is no peace.
Jeremiah 30:5

The Prophet Jeremiah spoke of a time when Jacob’s family (divided into two companies as the House of Judah and the House of Israel) would be restored and return to the land of Israel. Just like Jacob’s night of distress wrestling with the Lord and dealing with Esau, Jeremiah said that we would see a time when there would be terror, dread, and no peace. We see it each time a bus or restaurant bomb explodes in Israel. The conflict is focused on the mountains of Israel. The Bible calls it the controversy of Zion.

For the Lord has a day of vengeance, A year of recompense for the cause of Zion.
Isaiah 34:8

The Rabbis in Jerusalem have proclaimed that we are now in the days of Jacob’s Trouble.

Alas! for that day is great, there is none like it; and it is the time of Jacob's distress, but he will be saved from it.
Jeremiah 30:7

A watchman of the Lord can discern between the events of today (Jacob’s trouble) and the land of Israel and differentiate from Great Tribulation that is still coming.

4. The End of the Exile

And the house of Israel will know that I am the Lord their God from that day onward. And the nations will know that the house of Israel went into exile for their iniquity because they acted treacherously against Me, and I hid My face from them; so I gave them into the hand of their adversaries, and all of them fell by the sword.
Ezekiel 39:22-23

The exile of Israel to the nations, first by the House of Israel to the Assyrians in 722 B.C. and then to the House of Judah by the Romans in 70 A.D., is a historical fact. This was prophesied to occur. It happened. But God has also prophesied that both houses will be brought back to Israel one day. The Apostle Paul spoke of it directly.

For I do not want you, brethren, to be uninformed of this mystery, lest you be wise in your own estimation, that a partial hardening has happened to Israel until the fulness of the Gentiles has come in; and thus all Israel will be saved; just as it is written, “The Deliverer will come from Zion, He will remove ungodliness from Jacob.”
Romans 11:25-26

A watchman of the Lord is looking for the end of exile and the restoration of the two houses of Israel. He is aware of the present controversy and convinced of God’s promise.

5. The Abomination of Desolation and the Start of the Great Tribulation

There are many prophecy teachers today. There are many signs of the end of the age. Yeshua said that there was one particular sign by one particular prophet that would be the precise sign of the end of the ages.

Therefore when you see the abomination of desolation which was spoken of through Daniel the prophet, standing in the holy place (let the reader understand),
Matthew 24:15
for then there will be a great tribulation, such as has not occurred since the beginning of the world until now, nor ever shall.
Matthew 24:21
But immediately after the tribulation of those days the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light, and the stars will fall from the sky, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken, and then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in the sky, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of the sky with power and great glory.
Matthew 24:29-30

A watchman of the Lord is looking for an altar in Jerusalem with the daily sacrifice to be shutdown. He is looking for a statue of the antimessiah to be set up. He is looking for these events to occur in the season of winter followed by a three and one half year period. Then in the late summer (early fall), he is looking for the sign of the Son of Man. He is looking for the resurrection and the rapture to be then.

6. The World-Wide Judgements of God

Just as God showed His hand to the Egyptians, God will again deliver His people out of trials and tribulations (Mitzrayim) from the nations. Today, the gods of the world have again said that they are mightier than the Mighty One of Israel. From Allah to environmentalism, proclamations and laws of men will not prevail against Almighty God’s plan to restore all things to Himself. All authority belongs to Him and will be returned to Him.

According to the Bible, God will use the Sun, asteroids, the elements and forces of the natural world, demons, and men to accomplish His judgments.

And there will be signs in sun and moon and stars, and upon the earth dismay among nations, in perplexity at the roaring of the sea and the waves, men fainting from fear and the expectation of the things which are coming upon the world; for the powers of the heavens will be shaken. And then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. But when these things begin to take place, straighten up and lift up your heads, because your redemption is drawing near.
Luke 21:25-28

A watchman of the Lord is aware of the concerns for the Sun, near earth objects in space, the issues of natural forces of the earth, and the rising tide of evil in the world. He is neither afraid nor concerned. He knows God’s judgment will be upon all the world, but that he will receive grace and mercy from the Lord.

7. The Return of the Messiah

The watchman of the Lord stands like Joshua and Caleb. They saw it all and crossed the Jordan into the promised land. There will some watchmen who will stand with diligence and patience. They will be willing to wait however long it takes. They will be attuned to all that is happening. They will be sober and awake. They will know that the promise of the Return is true. They will put their confidence is in Him. They will see with their own eyes…

Today, there are many brethren who want to see with their own eyes the Lord’s coming. They are awash with prophecy books and teachings that confuse and befuddle. If they are to be diligent watchman, then we are going to have to sort through the confusion quickly.

While everyone senses that we are the last generation, very few can point to the evidences that convince you of it. Most of our brethren are not aware of our generation. If you point out the prophecies of the antimessiah and compare them to anyone, you’ll be ignored at best and scorned at worst. The Middle East crisis, particularly in Israel, is on the front page of every paper and the top television news story daily; yet, most believers can’t find one prophecy in the Bible that speaks to it directly. Paul’s statement that “all Israel shall be saved” is more of a theological quandary than a profound promise of God. Therefore, any discussion of another exodus, let alone a greater exodus for the children of Israel, is a completely foreign thought. The subject of the Abomination of Desolation is of particular note; most Bible teachers think setting up an altar would be an abomination to God. They have dismissed most of the Bible’s instruction and erred greatly in understanding the temple service. American believers tend to see God’s greatest judgments directed at America. They think America is more than the center of the Earth; they see themselves (their church) as the center of the Universe. Therefore, future judgments directed at the nations are superfluous matters. Finally, many see the subject of the Lord’s return better understood as a fictionalized novel and a movie. The actual return of the Messiah, in their imaginations, will be properly lighted, with background music, and pleasant. It will be like a visit to Disneyland.

Amateur watchmen like to play with the binoculars and talk to their friends. They think the duty is boring at best and a waste of time at worst. They tend to stare off in the wrong direction and don’t read or understand the watch manual. When they do see something, they report things imagined. They definitely don’t like to be alone in the dark – it’s too scary for them.

The watchman of the Lord must stand his watch with diligence and courage. He must be sober and awake. He must know where to look, what to look for, and be aware of all that is around him. He must rely on the Lord for his strength and wisdom.

I encourage you to be a Watchman, a watchman for the Lord, and to sound the alarm for His soon return.

P.S. If you haven’t noticed yet, lay the cover of the October issue of the Yavoh just to the right of the September issue. You’ll see what I was talking about.
